ESTEBAN PLAYS VANDOREN B40 MOUTHPIECE, V12 REEDS AND OPTIMUM LIGATURE FOR THE BASS CLARINET

Inicia sus estudios de clarinete a la edad de 9 años con la maestra Laura Jiménez Tassara, en la Etapa Básica de la Universidad de Costa Rica. Institución de la cuál obtiene su título de Licenciatura en Música con Énfasis en la Ejecución del Clarinete en el año 2015 con distinción de honor, bajo la tutela de la Dr. Yamileth Pérez Mora. Durante dos años consecutivos (2010 y 2011) de su carrera, obtuvo el galardón de “Recital de Honor”, premio que se otorga a los estudiantes destacados por su rendimiento académico. Además, durante su formación académica, fue parte de las principales agrupaciones musicales de estudiantes y profesores de la institución. También, para el 2018, Rojas obtiene el título de Maestría en Administración y Dirección de Empresas con énfasis en Mercadeo y Ventas con honores.

En su carrera como clarinetista, ha recibido clases con los maestros: Juan Nájera, Vinicio Meza, Jorge Montilla, Carmen Borregales, Hernán Darío Gutiérrez, Guillermo Marín, Aude Camus, John Cipolla, Óscar Espina, Luis Mora, Juan Alejandro Candamil, Alejandro Moreno, Krista Helfenberger Muñoz, Johannes Zurl, Julián Santacoloma, Ronald Van Spaendonck, Antonio Saiote, Juan Ferrer, entre otros.

Rojas también es coproductor del Festival Internacional de Clarinete de Costa Rica y del Concurso Internacional de Clarinete “José Manuel Ugalde Quirós”, producción que impacta a un gran número de personas del gremio clarinetístico del país. Dentro del Festival, él se dedica también a dirigir el coro de clarinetes en el cuál participan todos los miembros inscritos en el Festival.

Desde el 2010, Rojas es miembro fundador del Cuarteto Costarricense de Clarinetes, y es para el 2014 que se graba y se lanza la primera producción discográfica de este ensamble en el país. El álbum titulado “Invención”, es un homenaje a la música del compositor y también clarinetista Vinicio Meza. Dicho sea de paso, con este álbum, obtuvieron la nominación a los premios ACAM en la categoría de Música Instrumental.

Asimismo, desde el 2010 hasta la actualidad, asume la dirección de la Sinfónica Municipal de Desamparados, la cual es una agrupación de jóvenes estudiantes avanzados de los principales centros de estudio musical del país. Con esta agrupación, Rojas también se ha presentado en los principales escenarios del país, con una propuesta de fusionar la música popular con la agrupación sinfónica. En su carrera como director ha dirigido a las principales bandas sinfónicas profesionales del país en espectáculos como: Percance Sinfónico, Adrián Goizueta y el Grupo Experimental, Festival Larga Vida Rock N Roll, entre otros. Esto lo ha llevado a dirigir ensambles fuera del país, como el Coro de Clarinetes del XXVII Festival Universitario de Clarinete organizado por la Facultad de Música de la UNAM.

En la rama de la música popular, es miembro de la agrupación de música original de trova y nueva canción, “Adrián Goizueta y el Grupo Experimental”, con la cuál ya grabó un álbum que se estrenará en el 2020. También, ha participado en los dos musicales más importantes que se han hecho en el país como saxofonista y clarinetista, estos fueron Chicago (2017 y 2018) y Cabaret (2019). Además, cuenta con un dúo de música latinoamericana llamado Monteverde junto a Lenin Izaguirre, el cuál también ya lanzó su primera producción discográfica titulada “Trópico”.

Actualmente, se desempeña como clarinetista bajo de la Banda de Conciertos de Cartago del Ministerio de Cultura y Juventud, director de la Sinfónica Municipal de Desamparados, miembro del ensamble Adrián Goizueta y el Grupo Experimental, clarinetista bajo del Cuarteto Costarricense de Clarinetes y del Dúo Monteverde.

 

 

 

He began his clarinet studies at the age of 9 with teacher Laura Jiménez Tassara, in the Basic Stage of the University of Costa Rica. Institution from which he obtained his Bachelor of Music degree with Emphasis on the Performance of the Clarinet in 2015 with distinction of honor, under the tutelage of Dr. Yamileth Pérez Mora. For two consecutive years (2010 and 2011) of his career, he won the “Recital de Honor” award, which is awarded to outstanding students for their academic performance. In addition, during his academic training, he was part of the main musical groups of students and teachers of the institution. Also, for 2018, Rojas obtains the Master’s degree in Business Administration and Management with an emphasis in Marketing and Sales with honors.

In his career as a clarinetist, he has received classes with teachers: Juan Nájera, Vinicio Meza, Jorge Montilla, Carmen Borregales, Hernán Darío Gutiérrez, Guillermo Marín, Aude Camus, John Cipolla, Óscar Espina, Luis Mora, Juan Alejandro Candamil, Alejandro Moreno, Krista Helfenberger Muñoz, Johannes Zurl, Julián Santacoloma, Ronald Van Spaendonck, Antonio Saiote, Juan Ferrer, among others. Rojas is also co-producer of the International Clarinet Festival of Costa Rica and the International Clarinet Contest “José Manuel Ugalde Quirós”, a production that impacts a large number of people in the country’s clarinetist guild. Within the Festival, he is also dedicated to directing the clarinet choir in which all the members enrolled in the Festival participate. Since 2010, Rojas is a founding member of the Clarinet Costa Rican Quartet, and it is for 2014 that the first record production of this ensemble in the country is recorded and released. The album entitled “Invention” is a tribute to the music of the composer and also clarinetist Vinicio Meza. Incidentally, with this album, they obtained the nomination for the ACAM awards in the category of Instrumental Music.Also, from 2010 to the present, he assumes the direction of the Municipal Symphony of Desamparados, which is a group of young advanced students of the main centers of musical study of the country. With this group, Rojas has also performed in the main stages of the country, with a proposal to merge popular music with the symphonic group. In his career as a director he has directed the main professional symphonic bands of the country in shows such as: Percance Sinfónico, Adrián Goizueta and the Experimental Group, Long Life Festival Rock N Roll, among others. This has led him to direct assemblies outside the country, such as the Clarinet Choir of the XXVII Clarinet University Festival organized by the UNAM School of Music.

In the branch of popular music, he is a member of the group of original trova music and new song, “Adrián Goizueta and the Experimental Group”, with which he already recorded an album that will be released in 2020. Also, he has participated in the two most important musicals that have been made in the country as saxophonist and clarinetist, these were Chicago (2017 and 2018) and Cabaret (2019). In addition, it has a Latin American music duo called Monteverde with Lenin Izaguirre, who has also released his first record production entitled “Trópico”.

Currently, he works as a bass clarinetist for the Cartago Concerts Band of the Ministry of Culture and Youth, director of the Municipal Symphony of the Homeless, member of the Adrián Goizueta ensemble and the Experimental Group, bass clarinetist of the Costa Rican Quartet of Clarinets and the Monteverde Duo.
