Nuno Silva studied with António Saiote, Hans Deinzer, Pascal Moraguès and Håkan Rosengren. He graduated in Musicology from the Lisbon University and since 2003 holds a Master Degree from the California State University Fullerton. In 2017 he obtained his doctorate degree in music performance in the University of Évora. Nuno Silva won 1st Prize in all of the major Portuguese competitions and has also been distinguished in International Competitions. His recordings include Weber Concerto Nº2 with the New Portuguese Philharmonic Orchestra, 2 CDs with the Lisbon Clarinet Quartet, “SWING.PT” with the Portuguese Army Symphonic Band and most recently a CD with live performances of the Mozart Quintet and Copland Clarinet Concerto with the Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra. The critics received these recordings with great enthusiasm: “Silva’s tone has great core, focus and ring…” in The Clarinet; “… Silva has the chops to handle all of this music, and the swing to sell it.” in Fanfare Magazine.
In 2018 Nuno Silva performed the Lindberg Clarinet Concerto under the direction of the composer himself. In 2020 he published the book CLARINETE.PT which was received with great enthusiasm by clarinetists and musicians in general.
Nuno Silva holds the position of Principal Clarinet with the Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa as well as Professor of Clarinet at the Academia Nacional Superior de Orquestra in Lisbon. He is also Artistic Director of the Cultural Association Cultivarte which organizes the Lisbon International Clarinet Competition.
