Saxophoniste, clarinettiste, flûtiste, Christophe Panzani (né en 1975) est l’un des musiciens les plus sollicités de la scène française. Membre du Big Band de Carla Bley de 2002 à 2011 (album « Appearing Nightly », ECM – 2009), il fait partie de nombreuses formations de jazz en France telles que les projets « Circles » et « Bright Shadows » d’Anne Paceo, le Florian Pellissier 5tet, le groupe « Square One » de Matthis Pascaud, le groupe du jeune pianiste surdoué Gauthier Toux, etc…
Véritable touche-à-tout musical, son ancrage dans le jazz ne l’a pas empêché d’avoir été actif en parallèle dans plusieurs groupes aux esthétiques variées, allant de la musique africaine (Ousmane Danedjo) ou orientale (Fayçal Salhi) à l’électro jazz et le hip-hop (ElectroDeluxe, Hocus Pocus, C2C, Gaël Faye, Milk Coffee & Sugar, Guts), etc…
Christophe Panzani est membre fondateur de trois groupes majeurs de l’underground parisien : The Drops, avec le guitariste italien Federico Casagrande (trois albums parus) ; Thiefs, projet jazz hip-hop qu’il co-lead avec le contrebassiste américain Keith Witty, lauréat du French American Jazz Exchange en 2012, et 2017 ; et le collectif The Watershed (Karl Jannuska, Pierre Perchaud et Tony Paeleman).
En 2015-16, il est artiste en résidence à la scène nationale de l’Arsenal à Metz où il a présenté son LARGE Ensemble qui associe son quintet de jazzmen avec Vincent Peirani et Pierre Perchaud… au quintet à vent Arte Combo et au quatuor à cordes Voce, à la confluence du jazz et de la musique française du 20e.
En 2016 est paru l’album « Les âmes perdues » (album CHOC Jazz Magazine, Elu Citizen Jazz…) sur label Jazz&People, recueil de duo saxophone piano avec 7 pianistes (Yonathan Avishaï, Tony Paeleman, Dan Tepfer…), enregistrés chez chacun des pianistes sur leur piano.
En 2018 est paru l’album « GRAFT (La Greffe) » du groupe THIEFS (album CHOC Jazz Magazine, Album de la semaine Fip, Album The CheckOut sur WBGO …) sorti chez Jazz&People, avec des collaborations avec Mike Ladd, Gaël Faye, Edgar Sekloka, Aaron Parks…).
Christophe Panzani has been a member of the Carla Bley Big Band from 2002, and made multiple European tours with the Band. They recorded the last album of the band released in 2008 on the label ECM, album « Winner of the 2009 Jazz Journalist Association (JJA) Award as Record of the Year ».
He’s one of the most on demand Saxophone player in Paris, not only on the jazz scene, but on the Hip Hop and Soul/R&B scene, performing with one of the most important Hip Hop Band in France Hocus Pocusfor several years, also with French award Rap Artist and multi awards Novelist Gaël Faye, multi awards winner and World touring Artist Yaël Naïm…
In the mean time Panzani is a sideman with many of the top jazz musicians of the next generation : French multi awards winner, drummer Anne Paceo, multi awards French Accordion player Vincent Peirani, multi awards pianist Jean-Pierre Como, Florian Pellissier, Nicolas Moreau…
