Leibowitz Assaf

Since 2011, Assaf Leibowitz is the acting Associate Principal Clarinet of the Santiago Philharmonic Orchestra.
He began his clarinet studies with Richard Lesser, Former Principal Clarinet of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra and he continued his studies in Paris with Michel Arrignon, Florent Héau, Richard Vieille and Patrick Messina.
Upon graduation he won the first prize and “Golden Medal”, as well as the first prizes previously won both in clarinet and chamber music at the Tel Aviv Academy.
Leibowitz has played with renowned musicians such as Daniel Barenboim, Zubin Mehta, Valery Gergeiev, Daniele Gatti, Yo Yo Ma, Yefim Bronfman, Barbara Hendrix and notably, the New York Philharmonic recently nominated musical director, Jaap Von Zweden.
He has played with orchestras such as the Orchestre National de France, the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra and the International Symphony Orchestra, musically directed by Lorin Maazel.

As a soloist he has played with the Orchestra for Peace in Paris, the Young Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, and the 2021 Orchestra amongst others.
As a chamber musician, he participated with the ensemble Aramea, formed by internationally renowned soloists, and went on tours both in Europe and Israel.
He actively participates in the chamber music season of the Teatro Municipal de Santiago , the national opera house of Chile alongside his colleagues from the Santiago Philharmonic Orchestra as well as other prominent Chilean musicians. 

In addition to his activities as a performer, Leibowitz dedicates his time to teaching and bringing up the next generation of musicians.

After graduating from the prestigious CeFedEM in Paris, where he obtained his state diploma as a music professor, he joined the Provins conservatory as a part of its professoral body.
Currently, He is the Clarinet and Chamber music Professor at the Conservatory of the Mayor University in Chile.
As an orchestra conductor, he completed his studies under Adrian McDonnel, winning the first prize of the competition at the conservatory of the XV Arrondissement of Paris.
He won his place directly into the second year in the Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris. In 2007 he was named the associate conductor of the Orchestra for Peace, thus conducting the orchestra through its numerous tours in France.
He was Principal Conductor of the Provins Chamber Orchestra. Upon arrival to Chile the won the conducting competition of the FOJI and became a conductor of the Chilean National Youth Symphony.
He continues to conduct this orchestra on a regular basis as well as other major Chilean Orchestras.
