Initially studying at Chetham’s School of Music, Jonathan continued his musical education in France at the Conservatoire National Superior de Musique de Paris (CNSM) becoming the first British saxophonist to enter Claude Delangle’s world-famous saxophone class. Recently completing his masters degree in both saxophone and chamber music with distinction from CNSM, Jonathan is currently continuing his studies with Kyle Horch in London at the Royal College of Music as the Mills Williams Junior Fellow 2017/18.
He has performed throughout Europe in prestigious venues such as the Wigmore Hall, St John’s Smith Square, Bridgewater Hall, Grieg Hall and Philharmonie de Paris and has performed concertos with orchestras including the Slovenian Chamber Orchestra and Liverpool Mozart Orchestra. A keen promoter of contemporary music, Jonathan has collaborated with the Institute for Research and Coordination in Acoustics/Music (IRCAM) and has premiered works by Betsy Jolas and Luis Naón.
Passionate about chamber music, Jonathan co-founded the Yendo Quartet. The saxophone group have been broadcast by Radio France on the programmes Generation Young Talent and Alla Breve and have recently released their first CD, Utópico. As Junior Fellow at the Royal College of Music, Jonathan is leading a project with the aim of developing and exploring the saxophone’s mixed chamber music repertoire, through concerts and workshops during the course of the year.
Jonathan has received awards from the BBC Performing Arts Fund, the Laubach Masterclass and most recently was awarded a Maisie Lewis Award by The Musicians’ Company, a Star Award from the Countess of Munster Musical Trust and a Senior Soloist award from the Hattori Foundation. Jonathan is a Help Musicians UK Ian Fleming Award holder, a Making Music Philip and Dorothy Green Young Artist and a Countess of Munster Musical Trust Recital Scheme Artist.
