Nacim Brahimi débute le saxophone à l’âge de 8 ans puis s’intéresse au jazz alors qu’il entre à l’École Nationale de Musique de Villeurbanne. En 1999 il intègre la classe de François Jeanneau au Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris et reçoit en 2003 un Premier Prix de Jazz et Musiques Improvisées, mention Très Bien.
L’année suivante il remporte le deuxième Prix de Soliste du Concours National de Jazz de la Défense ainsi que le deuxième Prix de Groupe avec le sextet de Sébastien Jarrousse.
De 2004 à 2008 il fait partie du Jazoo Project de Riccardo Del Fra, avec lequel il côtoie Kenny Wheeler, Joey Baron et Sylvain Luc.

On le retrouve également aux côtés de nombreux artistes de tous horizons : Chico Freeman, Karim Ziad, Jeanne Added, Amel Bent, Supergombo, Bigre !, John Greaves, Sinclair, Le Sacre du Tympan, Calypso Rose, Nasser Martin-Gousset, Milk Coffee and Sugar, Mokhtar Samba, Albert Mangelsdorff, Walter Thompson…
En 2015 il remporte la deuxième place du concours Made in New York Jazz Competition avec le groupe de Karim Maurice.
Son dernier projet, North African Beats,  réunit des musiciens algériens autour d’un répertoire original inspiré à la fois des musiques populaires du Maghreb et des musiques actuelles.

 

 

Born and raised in Lyon (France), Nacim Brahimi started playing the saxophone at the age of eight. He became passionate about jazz at the Villeurbanne National School of Music and then furthered his musical education at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris. He was awarded a First Prize in Jazz and Improvised Musics in 2003.
The following year he won the second Best soloist Prize and the second Best Band Prize with the Sébastien Jarrousse Sextet at the La Défense National Jazz Competition, Paris.
From 2004 to 2008 he was part of Riccardo Del Fra’s Jazoo Project, which allowed him to share the stage and record with Kenny Wheeler, Joey Baron and Sylvain Luc.

He also performed with many artists in various artistic fields : Chico Freeman, Karim Ziad, Jeanne Added, Amel Bent, Supergombo, Bigre !, John Greaves, Sinclair, Le Sacre du Tympan, Calypso Rose, Nasser Martin-Gousset, Milk Coffee and Sugar, Mokhtar Samba, Albert Mangelsdorff, Walter Thompson…
In 2015 he won the second place at the Made in New York Jazz Competition with Karim Maurice’s band.
His latest project, North African Beats, gathers together Algerian musicians around an original repertoire, inspired from popular musics from Maghreb and modern music.
