Selin Gürol plays the B40 mouthpiece with V•12 reeds #3

With her vision, musical talent and perfectionism, Clarinetist Selin Gürol will engrave her name into memories. With her flawless technique and colorful interpretation, Ms. Gürol attracts the attention of her audience.

Originally from Istanbul, Selin Gürol started playing the clarinet at the age of 11 and was graduated from “Music High School of Bilkent University” in Selen Özyıldırım’s class in Ankara, Turkey.
Later on, she attended the undergraduate class of Michel Lethiec at the “Conservatoire National de Nice” where she was awarded the “Prix de Perfectionnement” and obtained her Soloist Bachelor Diploma at Nice University. After perfecting her skills in France, she decided to move to Switzerland in order to continue her musical career in Frédéric Rapin’s class at “Haute Ecole de Musique de Lausanne” where she obtained her Master of Arts in Music Performance Diploma.

Successfully passing the audition of Zurich Opera where only one person is welcomed annually, Ms. Gürol started her internship in Philharmonia Zürich – Opernhaus whilst being qualified for the Master Specialized in Orchestra Performance in “Zürcher Hochschule der Künste”. Given this opportunity, she had the chance to work with many clarinetists such as Fabio di Càsola, Robert Pickup, Heinrich Mätzener and Felix-Andreas Genner.

During the masterclass in Chigiana Academy with Alessandro Carbonare, she received the artist’s appreciation and was honored with an Academy Scholarship where she performed as a soloist in the concert. She completed her education at Alessandro Carbonare’s class at the “Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia” in Rome. She was granted several scholarships and awards such as “Musica Mundi Festival”, Belgium; “Académie d’Eté de Nice”, France; “Eczacıbaşı Foundation”, Turkey; “Bruno Schüler-Stiftung”, Switzerland.

In addition to Philharmonia Zurich – Opernhaus, she took part in many orchestras such as Yehudi Menuhin Academy, Animato Philharmonic, Netherlands Youth, Mediterranean Youth under the baton of Vladimir Ashkenazy, Marko Letonja, Carlo Rizzi, Ralf Weikert, Peter Eötvös, Christian Zacharias, Domingo Hindoyan and Kevin Griffiths.

Ms. Gürol performed as a soloist with the many orchestras such as Istanbul State Symphony Orchestra, Bilkent Symphony Orchestra and Çukurova State Symphony Orchestra. Furthermore, she has performed live on the “Radio Espace 2” in Switzerland with her own project which is called “Turkish Contemporary and Traditional Music”.

She was invited to world-renowned music festivals in Turkey, France, Italy, Belgium, Sweden, Switzerland, Tunisia, Hungary, Croatia, Slovenia, Greece, Spain, Monaco, Germany, Netherlands, Austria, Czechia and Slovakia.

She’s also a member of “Galata Trio” with Venezuelan bassoonist Oswin Carruido and Turkish Pianist Assoc. Prof. Kandemir Basmacıoğlu.

Besides her carrier as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestra member; Clarinetist Selin Gürol continues her academic career with her PhD in Istanbul University State Conservatory.
With her imagination, perception, and constant search for the novelties, Gürol is following her own path.

Originaire d’Istanbul, Selin Gürol a commencé à jouer de la clarinette à l’âge de 11 ans et a été diplômée du «Lycée de Musique de l’Université de Bilkent» dans la classe de Selen Özyıldırım à Ankara, en Turquie. Plus tard, elle a fréquenté la classe de Michel Lethiec au Conservatoire National de Nice où elle a obtenu le «Prix de Perfectionnement» et obtenu son Bachelor Soliste à l’Université de Nice.

Après avoir perfectionné ses compétences en France, elle décide de s’installer en Suisse afin de poursuivre sa carrière musicale dans la classe de Frédéric Lapin à la Haute Ecole de Musique de Lausanne où elle obtient son Master of Arts in Music Performance Diploma.

Lauréat de l’audition en tant que l’interne à Philharmonia Zürich – Opernhaus en étant qualifié pour le Master Spécialisé en Performance d’Orchestre à “Zürcher Hochschule der Künste”. Compte tenu de cette opportunité, elle a eu la chance de travailler avec des clarinettistes tels que Fabio di Càsola, Robert Pickup, Heinrich Mätzener et Felix-Andreas Genner. Au cours de la master classe à l’Académie Chigiana avec Alessandro Carbonare, elle a reçu la reconnaissance de l’artiste et a été honorée d’une bourse de l’Académie où elle s’est produite en solo lors du concert. Elle a terminé ses études dans la classe d’Alessandro Carbonare à l’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia à Rome.

En plus de Philharmonia Zurich – Opernhaus, elle a participé à de nombreux orchestres tels que Académie de Yehudi Menuhin, Philharmonie d’Animato, l’Orchestre des Jeunes du Pays-Bas , l’Orchestre des Jeunes de la Méditerranée sous la direction de Vladimir Ashkenazy, Marko Letonja, Carlo Rizzi, Ralf Weikert, Peter Eötvös, Christian Zacharias, Domingo Hindoyan, Kevin Griffiths.

Elle s’est produite en tant que soliste avec des orchestres tels que l’Orchestre Symphonique d’État d’Istanbul, l’Orchestre Symphonique de Bilkent et l’Orchestre Symphonique d’État de Çukurova. En oute elle s’est produite en direct à la «Radio Espace 2» en Suisse avec son propre projet qui s’appelle «Musique turque contemporaine et traditionnelle».

Elle a été invitée à participer à divers festivals internationaux de musique en Turquie, France, Italie, Belgique, Suède, Suisse, Tunisie, Hongrie, Croatie, Slovénie, Grèce, Espagne, Monaco, Allemagne, Pays-Bas, Autriche, Tchéquie et Slovaquie. 

Elle est membre du groupe de musique de chambre «Galata Trio» où le bassoniste vénézuélien Oswin Carruido et le pianiste turc Assoc. Prof. Kandemir Basmacıoğlu y participe.

Outre sa carrière de soloiste, de musique de chambre et de musicienne d’orchestre; La clarinettiste Selin Gürol poursuit sa carrière académique avec son doctorat au Conservatoire d’État de l’Université d’Istanbul. Avec son imagination, sa perception et sa recherche constante de nouveautés, Gürol suit son propre chemin.
