Long Zhang was a principal clarinet at the Shanghai Opera house, presently he held a position as bass clarinet solo in the Shanghai Philhamonic Orchestra.  He attended the class of Michel Lethiec at the “Conservatoire National de Nice”, where he was awarded the “Prix de Perfectionnement” and obtained his Soloist Bachelor Diploma at Nice University.
During his studies in France, Long Zhang began his career as soloist in Europe and China. He played in Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto with Nice Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Philippe Auguin.
In regarding to orchestras, he was a visiting clarinetist and collaborated with the Cannes Symphony Orchestra conducted by Philippe Bender, at the same time he has been teaching at many music schools in Nice.
He has held solo and chamber music concerts, master classes in Shanghai, Suzhou, Wuhan, Urumqi and other places in China.
Long Zhang has been invited to participate at music festivals in Shanghai, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Nice, Xi’an, Chongqing and other cities. His playing style includes both classical music and contemporary music, especially on the creation, performance and innovation of contemporary music.
In 2016 he has formed his own chamber music orchestra together with teachers from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, the group regularly plays commissioned works created by Danish and Chinese composers at the Copenhagen Pulsar Contemporary Music Festival and Vienna University of the Arts , the group recorded a CD with “Naxos Records” [Naxos 8.579011].
